Arne Johnson began learning
the art of brewing at the age of 13. His father and mother
were both passionate home brewers and taught Arne the craft
and science of brewing. Arne's mother, Evelyn Johnson, was
a microbiologist and lab professor at the University of
California from 1963 to 1993. She gave Arne a strong foundation
in the brewing sciences.
EDUCATION
Arne is educated both formally and informally in the art
of brewing. In 1995 he earned the right to attend the American
Brewers Guild, an intensive craft brewing science and engineering
program coordinated by Dr. Michael Lewis. This program consisted
of instruction in brewing science and engineering including
the theory, science, and technology of brewing processes.
In addition, Arne has two years of education in Management
Information Systems and general education from San Diego
State University.
BREWING EXPERIENCE
Arne Johnson is the Head Brewmaster at Marin Brewing Company.
He has been the Head Brewmaster at MBC since October of
1995. He achieved this position after successfully finishing
a structured apprenticeship under brewer/mentor, Grant Johnston,
in conjunction with the American Brewers Guild.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Arne Johnson has been a home brewer for over 30 years. He
is a master of "all-grain" brewing. He is experienced
in microbiological examination, yeast culturing and propagation;
as well as other advanced home brewing techniques. Arne
has experience brewing many styles of ale and lager beer
and has developed an advanced ability to brew various specialty
beers.
